Plastic Cable Drums
What is Plastic Cable Drums
Cable reels hold conductive cable or lifting cable and are used for storage, unwinding, and winding. Contacts on electric cable reels keep the power on while winding. Reels are machines that wrap long, continuous goods like cable, wires, paper, and other materials for transport or storage. Simple storage systems such as reels are available, while more advanced versions are self-winding.
Advantages of Plastic Cable Drums
Better toughness
In the past, electronic cranes used iron chain devices, and now the cable reel has completely replaced it. Because compared with metal, it is more tough and has better cushioning power. The service life of the metal reel is very short, and it is prone to accidents. The cable reel can expand and contract freely, and it is safer to work.
Longer life span
Because the iron chain reel is a metal product, it will be oxidized regardless of whether it is used or not. If it is used in a port, it will be more prone to rust. But the cable reel does not have to worry about rusting at all, because its material is cable, and the outside is all insulators. Generally, it does not return to rust, and the use cycle is much longer than that of metal.

At present, there are many types of plastic cable drums on the market, and there are very big differences from appearance to function to material. However, in the plastic cable drum drums with different advantages, a major feature of attracting consumers is that the guardian's excellence in product safety is to do a good job of moving the plastic cable drum on the plastic cable drum.
We know that plastic cable drums should be used as a mobile transfer power supply to play a role of communication to the current. This means that when plastic cable drums work, the power is needed to transmit the current by bypassing the cables. Because plastic cable drums are mainly used for large -scale production working environments such as electric power plants, railway ships, steel construction, and construction sites, the length of the cables required is relatively long. Once the length of the cable required for work is shortened, the remaining cables need to be wrapped around the cable roll work. This is the situation where the roller needs to face.
When the cable is working, it will generate a certain amount of heat because it has resistance. When the cable spreads out, these heat will emit out, which does not constitute any impact. However, when the cable is wrapped around the roll tube, the heat emitted by countless cables gathered together, and it will be transmitted to the rolled tube that is contacted because it does not get emitted. If the roll tube is metal, the strong heating performance of the metal is not easy to cause danger, and the plastic is relatively better because plastic insulation and not easy to absorb heat.

Plastic cable drums are greatly affected by external force factors such as environmental force, so anti -external force capacity (and plastic cable drum material) is an important standard for measuring a plastic cable drum.
● There are rainproof, dust -proof, and splash protection.
● There is a high temperature blocking full device. Set overheated overload protector for plastic cable drums, and electricity
Magnetic leakage protector, dual insurance. When the temperature of the plastic cable drum is too high, the plastic cable drum is automatically disconnected to prevent fires from occurring. Especially in the hot summer, after high temperature and rainwater "washing", no Qualified cables are extremely spontaneous and leakage, which is extremely dangerous.
Working Principle of Cable Drums
The working power part and the speed regulation part of the cable reel are acted by the motor, which has its unique mechanical and electrical characteristics. The motor can run stably for a long time at any point on the mechanical characteristic curve of torque and speed to ensure that the cable can obtain proper winding speed and tension on the corresponding radius of the reel. The motor has a wide range of speed regulation and has very soft mechanical characteristics. When the load changes, the working speed of the motor also changes accordingly, that is, the load increases and the speed decreases, and the load decreases and the speed increases.
The output torque of the cable winding motor is the power, and the reel is driven to take up the cable through the deceleration part.
In order to ensure the synchronization of unwinding, release the output torque of the cable motor as an obstacle to prevent the cable from quickly pulling off the reel.
In order to ensure that when the motor is powered off, the cable will not slip off the reel due to gravity, and the motor is equipped with a disc normally closed brake when it is stopped for a long time.
Cable drums are round objects. They are shaped like a spool. They are made of wood, plywood, plastic or steel. Cables drums have been in use for decades. They are very useful. They are used to transport wires, cables, fiber optic cables, etc. They are available in different weights, and sizes. They store cables without causing any damage, provided you use them in a proper way. Even if cable drums are strong, you need to follow certain guidelines to store them and avoid damage to cables or wires.
Lifting Cable Drums
When lifting drum cables, we need to be extra careful. Use a shaft through the center and wire spreader. In case you don't have a shaft, use a ling wire with a lift to protect the side of the drum from damage. Be careful enough to protect the cable head. They should not be pinched between wire and drum. Remember, to move or store drums in an upright position. Use a fork, which should be longer than the drum.
Storing Cable Drum
Always store drum cables on a hard surface. Since drums can roll, using barriers or wedges to prevent them from rolling is recommended. In case the storage surface is soft, and not flat, then elevating the drum off the ground is a smart idea. It prevents the cable drums from damaging cable or wires. Moreover, never store them lying flat on the side. This will create unnecessary stress on cable-layers at the bottom.

How Are Cable Drums Transported
Cable drum transport is typically performed using flatbed and lowboy trailers.
During transport, the drums are properly supported with a through shaft and spreader bar to prevent damage to the drum and cable when lifted by a crane. During loading, the drum is lifted with a forklift. Afterward, the cable drums are strapped adequately to avoid rolling and to make sure it is secured to the vehicle.
Drums are secured with chains or cargo belts to prevent movement during transport. Loading is done with the first drum leaning towards the front edge and from the front. Attention is also given to the axle weight restrictions. Drums are tied from the center with at least three belts.
Flanges are kept straight against one another when drums are in-line to prevent flanges from harming the cable itself. Finally, wooden cleats are placed between drums for better security.
Cable drums are heavy and difficult to handle without the use of heavy equipment. Therefore, they should be treated with care and every danger should be accounted for.
Wooden cable drums are not meant to be rolled over significant distances, and plywood drums should not be rolled on the ground.
When rolling drums, you should consider the following first:
● The drum's mass
● How visible is the direction in which the drum is being rolled
● Is the ground smooth, hard, and flat
● The direction of the cable on the drum
● The drum's condition
● Special care should be taken with full cable drums.
● Appropriate lifting equipment rated for the load they are to carry should be used when lifting drums.
● Cable drums can be stored outdoors, but the ground will need to be clean and even. Damage to wound cable should be avoided at all costs.
● The possibility of cables rolling away should be prevented. Drum flanges of cables that are close to each other should never be allowed to touch any items that are wound. During storage or transportation, cable drums should always stand on the neighboring flanges. The cable drums must not be pushed along the ground, standing on the flanges, as doing that may weaken them.
● Don't roll cable drums carelessly in any direction. The arrow printed on the drum flange shows the direction to roll it so that the wound goods won't loosen around the drum.
● Uncoiling the cable should be done at the tangent and never over the flange. The resulting torsion will damage the cable and make laying it impossible.
● Cables that do not have paper as insulation should have cable ends that cannot be penetrated and are pressure-tight. Carelessly insulating cables can lead to the formation of moisture. This causes a drastic deterioration in the electrical transmission rate, resulting in power failures. Compressed air sealing stoppers and cable end caps can help make cable ends impenetrable.
Precautions for Using Plastic Cable Drums
The cable reel sometimes fails during use. Once the cable reel fails, it is necessary to investigate the cause in time so that the problem can be solved. Generally, the reasons for the failure of the cable reel mainly include the following situations.
The tension on the cable reel has exceeded its own range, so the cable roller will fail. As long as the tension of the cable reel is controlled within a reasonable range, the problem can be avoided.
The mechanical structure design of the equipment supporting the cable reel is unreasonable, so that the cable reel will be subjected to excessive stretching and eventually the equipment will break.
There is an overcurrent phenomenon during the use of the cable reel. Although the surface of the cable has an insulating protective layer, the temperature it can withstand also has a clear standard. If the bending radius of the cable is smaller than the rated bending radius, the skin is easy to Problems with twisting, knotting and breakage. Eventually, the cable reel will fail.

Properly handling cable drum is important. It should not be dripped directly on the floor. Its weight and cable may cause deflection of Drum flange which will result in flattening, deformation or damage of cable. Also, it will lead to broken drums or visible or invisible damage to the cable itself.
Moreover, during transportation, unloading and storage cable drums, try protecting cables and avoid touching them improperly. Check whether the drum is not damaged by handling or showing signs of wear or rotting. Ensure special handling procedures.
Use suitable devices for loading and unloading to avoid damage to the cable and the drum.
Never drop the drums from a truck, ramp or container
Always transport cable drums with suitable vehicles
During transport, always keep storage drums in an upright position
Check whether all screws hold the flanges and tightened before moving the drums
Lift cable drums with a forklift from the flange side
Make sure the fork may not touch the cable its protective cover in order to avoid damage
The fork must support both flanges while lifting
In case the cable drum is lifted with a crane, use an axle or a spreader beam to avoid lateral pressure on flanges.
Applications of Cable Reels
Cable reels are used for on-site cable installation. The cable drum is used to secure and remove various sorts of cables from various locations. This type of equipment is a useful tool for cable installation and maintenance.
Mounted on shafts: shaft-mounted reels have a very easy-to-adjust cable tension, making them one of our most popular and adaptable cable retractors.
Cable reels are applied in vehicles, mostly off-road trucks. They are used to reel out the vehicle when it is stuck in mud for example.
Fiber optic cables are commonly packaged in steel reels made specifically for transporting and storing fiber optic wires. Light pulses created by tiny lasers or light-emitting diodes transport communication signals across fiber optic links (LEDs). The cable is made up of one or more glass strands that are each only a few millimeters thicker than human hair. The core is the part of each strand that offers a path for the light to go. A layer of glass called a coating surrounds the core and reflects light inward to reduce signal loss and allow light to pass through bends in the wire.
Cable reels are used to reel in and out the following materials:
● Wires
● Cables
● Monofilaments
● Fibers
● Threads
● Yarns
● Ropes
● Hoses
● Flexible Tubes
● Bands
● Strips
● Tapes
● Films
Cable drums are mainly intended for securing cables from damage and for storing them properly so that they can be used efficiently later. These drums usually come in huge sizes, so it is necessary to handle and store them properly in order to avoid any undesirable impact or damage to the cables and to the drums themselves.
To ensure proper handling of cable drums, here are some important pieces of advice you should follow:
● Avoid moving the cable drum by directly dropping it from the transport vehicle, as it can cause potential damage to both the cables and the drum.
● When moving cable drums, always utilise proper lifting machines, such as forklifts and cranes.
● When hoisting wires or cables, make use of a spreader bar to keep the lifting chain from directly pressing against the drum, which can then damage the drum or weaken the chain.
● Ensure the complete and safe lifting of the cable drums by lifting them at 90° to the flanges. Be sure to extend the forks past both flanges.
● Make sure to roll the cable drums for short distances only and in directions that will not cause the cables inside the drums to loosen. Otherwise, cable tangling or kinking may occur.
When it comes to proper cable drum handling, there are certain pieces of equipment that are essential for ensuring the efficiency and safety of cable installation projects. These pieces of equipment guarantee that cable drums are handled carefully during every phase of the installation procedure. Among the most important equipment for cable drum handling are cable jacks and cable drum trailers.
Cable Jacks
Cable jacks are screw-type or hydraulic devices that are used to lift cable drums during the installation process. These devices are available with different lifting capacities. Their main purpose is to ensure correct and safe handling of cable drums, regardless of their sizes and weights.
Cable Drum Trailers
Cable drum trailers provide cable drums with a secure and safe transport that they need between job sites. The construction of these trailers enables them to hold onto cable drums securely without denting or damaging them during transportation. This ensures maximum protection of the cables during their trips.
