1. Storage Environment Control: Avoid Wood Deformation and Damage
Store it in a dry and well-ventilated area with ambient humidity maintained between 40%-60%. Keep it away from standing water and damp floors (use wooden racks to elevate it by 10-15cm).
Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight or high-temperature drafts (e.g., near heaters or boilers) to prevent wood cracking and moisture content imbalance.
For temporary outdoor storage, fully cover the reel with a waterproof tarpaulin, leaving ventilation gaps between the tarpaulin and the reel to avoid dampness and mold growth.
2. Daily Use: Reduce Physical Damage
During transportation, avoid dragging or impacting the flange edges. Prioritize using lifting holes or handles to prevent wood chipping and screw loosening.
Control tension when winding cables and avoid overloading the reel (do not exceed 90% of the reel's rated capacity) to prevent hub deformation.
Keep the reel away from corrosive substances such as oil, acid, and alkali. If accidentally contaminated, wipe it clean with a dry cloth immediately; use a neutral cleaner if necessary.
3. Regular Maintenance: Enhance Wood Stability
Inspect the reel every 3-6 months: Tighten loose screws and bolts, and replace deformed or broken connectors (e.g., metal buckles, bearings).
Perform anti-corrosion treatment once a year: For solid wood reels, apply wood-specific anti-corrosion paint or wood oil to the surface (focus on flange edges and joints) to form a protective layer.
Check the wood condition every 1-2 years: Fill minor cracks with wood glue and sand them smooth. If moisture content is abnormal (feels damp or severely cracked), re-kiln dry or dehumidify the wood.
4. Special Scene Protection: Targeted Measures
For reels used for export or long-term sea transportation: After arriving at the destination, remove packaging promptly for ventilation, inspect for mold, and re-fumigate if necessary.
For reels used in outdoor infrastructure: Clean surface sediment after each use, dry it thoroughly before storage, and prevent moisture in the soil from seeping into the wood.
For reels idle for more than 6 months: Dry them completely before storage, seal them with a tarpaulin, and place desiccants (e.g., silica gel packs) inside to prevent moth infestation and mold growth.
